Planning/Zoning Board

The Planning and Zoning Board is a five (7) member board appointed by the Board of Commissioners (Town residents) and the Surry County Board of Commissioners (ETJ Residents).  The Planning and Zoning Board analyzes current and emerging land development trends and activities and recommends plans, policies and ordinances designed to maximize opportunities for growth while promoting the pubic health, safety, morals and welfare.  In addition, the Board reviews applications for Special Use Permits, Variances, and appeals from decisions of the Zoning Administrator.  The Town Planner serves as the staff liaison to the board. 

The Board meets on the third Tuesday of each month, as needed, in the Board of Commissioners meeting room in the Town Hall.
